  • 2 Tickets to a Cooking Class of Your Choice
  • GRAND PRIZE!…2 Tickets to the ‘Soil to Soul’ Supper at Windy Hill Farms

Has anyone read or seen Southpark Magazine this month?  Right in the middle there is a 2 page spread with a beautiful picture of the ‘Soil to Soul’ Supper from last year.

I was just at Windy Hill Farms last night picking up some pork belly for today’s Cuban Sandwich.  Windy Hill Farm is the type of farm that you picture right out of a story book.  Picture this….off of a narrow back road, turn left down a long winding tree canopied gravel drive…the drive takes you down into a gully and over a small stream. As you begin to ascend there are pigs rooting in the woods on your left, the laying hen’s houses on your right, you emerge into a large clearing atop the hill of which the quaint farmhouse is perched.  As you approach the house baby lambs and their mothers scatter through a field at the sound of the truck tires on the rough gravel, on the right is the piglet pen and the brooding house (where they keep all the baby chicks).  I park the car, Jess and I get out, I shake the hand of the farmer as a litter of week old kittens comes out from under an old truck to greet Jess.  As the sun is setting we chat with Charles and Dana (the farmers) for a while, say goodbye to the kids chasing the kittens, get back in the truck and head down the road.  When you eat at Roots picture this and feel good about what you are eating.  Once again I would like to thank everyone who has supported us and local food throughout our first year.
